ValuJet Airlines - September, 1994

ValuJet started flying from Atlanta in 1993, and it would later have a catastrophic accident in May, 1996. Time chronicled the accident in this article. A picture of the doomed DC-9 can be found here.

In 1997, it purchased AirTran, and the ValueJet name quickly disappeared. Now that Southwest has purchased AirTran, it will be interesting to see if this airline is ever mentioned when Southwest traces its predecessor airlines.

The St. Petersburg Times has a good article about the 10-year anniversary of Flight 592's crash into the Florida Everglades.

Here's a later route map from ValuJet's archived website.

This video details what caused Flight 592 to crash.
